CBD dosing can seem like a bit of guesswork in the beginning. However, by using our CBD dosage guide, we hope to provide a systematic way to ensure that you can get the most out of your hemp routine while maximising the efficiency of your chosen dose.
FSA CBD Dosage Guidelines
In 2019, the FSA recommended that adults in proper health conditions take up to 70mg of CBD daily. Numerous studies show that much larger doses are well-tolerated, but 70mg provides plenty of room for most users to get the most out of their cannabidiol.
The standard CBD dosage guide for most of our clients falls between 5-20mg, administered one to three times a day. The proper CBD effective dose varies, but with a little care you can easily find the right amount for you.
To find your ideal dose, you don?t need to rely on a fancy CBD dosage calculator. Simply start with the recommended CBD dosage guide of 5mg, and wait for three hours, observing your response before taking more. This is a great practice to use for your first dose of any new supplement, even when switching between products of the same brand.
After the first three hours, feel free to redose. Most CBD connoisseurs will enjoy taking cannabidiol once every six to eight hours. Three applications a day, for one to two weeks, should help you move much closer to your wellness goals. According to many herbalist traditions, it can be useful to take one day per week off, without taking any supplements (even CBD!). So feel free to break out of your schedule every now and again.
CBD Doses For Different Products
Cannabidiol is available in a wide selection of potencies and product styles. While many of these product variations involve cosmetic or flavouring differences, there are several administration methods that will impact CBD’s biological activity in unique ways.
Vaporising/inhaling cannabinoids delivers a high bioavailability (10-35%), an immediate onset, and a short two to four-hour duration.
Oral/sublingual products have a mild bioavailability (6-20%), a seventy-five-minute onset, and a long six to eight-hour duration. Keep in mind that the onsets and durations of sublingual products are often faster than oral products, and the bioavailability of sublingual application is usually higher.
Topical products are not absorbed into the bloodstream. Still, their local applications allow the CBD composition to begin working right away, with noticeable progress occurring within fifteen minutes, and lasting for two to four hours.
Just because the highest delivery percentage comes from vaporisation, doesn’t mean that this should be your only coveted dosing method. It may be if the vaping lifestyle vibes with you, and if you like the ability to attenuate the subjective benefits of your hemp routine by taking more dosages on the spot. But, always keep in mind that each delivery method brings CBD to the body, and often to the bloodstream, in different ways. These absorption methods impact the spectrum of compounds that will reach their targets while influencing the distribution of these bioactive elements throughout the body.
The best recommendation to get started is to create a schedule that is easy to track and has you covered around the clock. This could look like taking 5mg of sublingual CBD every six to eight hours: morning, noon, and night. Then begin to work with other administration methods in between and discover if one helps you achieve a higher perception of welfare, with greater ease. The convenience of switching between the different durations, onsets, and subjective effects already adds a new depth to any CBD regimen, so don’t hold back.
Finding Your Ideal CBD Dose
Finding the perfect CBD dose comes down to a little bit of experimentation, and a touch of preparation. You’ve already seen the most crucial detail: almost all customers are satisfied with 5 to 20mg of our lab-verified, Herbal Health CBD.
Observe your reaction and be patient with your routine. Most customers report seeing real rewards associated with their hemp regimen after sticking to their regular dosages for a week or two.
After a day or so, if you would like to experience a more substantial dose, feel free. You could even do this safely three hours after your first dose, but it never hurts to be thorough when getting to know any new organic compound.
Each time you increase the dose, try and take that amount for a least a day before increasing again. You can gradually raise the dose by 2.5 to 5mg, depending on what product you have available. Sometimes, gummies and edibles do not allow for precise dose changes. CBD tinctures, with their attached 1ml droppers, do allow for more accurate dosing with smaller gradients in mg changes. This could be an excellent selling point for our classic CBD oils. These items will always be a top seller due to their tried and true reputation.
Once you find a dose that feels right, sit on it, and stay steady for a week or so. If you experience continued success, you do not necessarily need to change the dose. If you are feeling great, you can try lowering your chosen CBD concentration gradually to see if you can maintain the same positives with a lower amount. Continue to play with your dose until satisfied. Feel free to be as relaxed or precise as you desire while finding the routine and concentrations that best suit your needs.
Keep in mind that larger, single doses of CBD can be enjoyed each day as well. The goal is to avoid taking more than 70mg of cannabidiol in total. For relaxation and tension relief at the end of a day, a sizeable 30-70mg treat could do just the trick. While we don’t recommend starting with this amount, this dose is still very well within the guidelines for safe, regular use.
CBD Isolate VS Broad Spectrum Dosing
CBD Isolate and Broad Spectrum CBD dosage guides are very similar. CBD Isolate refers to a highly pure crystalline CBD extract. Broad Spectrum CBD products contain the complete spectrum of hemp compounds found in the plant naturally, but they have been refined to remove any trace elements of THC.
Herbal Health CBD only carries Broad Spectrum and CBD Isolate products. Still, other manufacturers and distributors may offer Full Spectrum CBD items that have not been refined to remove residual THC. Provided that these Full Spectrum items have been tested thoroughly, they may still be within the WHO (World Health Organisation) non-psychoactive THC guidelines. These guidelines require all items to contain under 0.2% THC per dry weight of the product.
There is a risk of causing a false positive for a THC/marijuana drug test when consuming Full Spectrum items. This false positive may occur even when the consumer never noticed a perceptible alteration of consciousness or “high.” Always stick with lab-tested CBD, and preferably work only with CBD Isolate and Broad Spectrum formulas.
The ideal dosages for CBD Isolate and Broad-Spectrum CBD formulas are usually within the 5-20mg, one to three times a day recommendation. The only difference is that Broad Spectrum CBD reliably creates an improved response with more significant mg amounts. CBD isolate, however, has an ideal dose window, which acts as a sweet spot.
CBD boosts circulating levels of one of our internal compounds, AEA. AEA binds primarily to cannabinoid receptor type 1 (CB1) to create its incredible effects. CBD, however, when taken in an isolated form, may compete with AEA for binding sites. CBD does not have an excellent affinity for CB1 receptors, but it is an allosteric modulator of these receptor sites, allowing it to bind closely and potentially inhibit CB1 activity.
Broad Spectrum CBD does not require the same precision with dosing. With a larger dose, the overall tonic effect of CBD is boosted from the extra plant nutrients’ synergistic properties. This synergy seems to negate the decreased activity that CBD isolates display when given in doses surpassing the ideal dose window.
Don’t let this deter you from taking CBD isolate products. Cannabidiol, even when taken solo, is an incredible organic chemical with the potential to boost health and wellness. Just be aware that starting at 5mg, and building up with ease, will allow you to find a particularly sweet dosage that suits your body’s unique needs.

The CBD and hemp compounds included in our products are all non-psychotropic and are bio-active at the doses indicated by our tests.
